Taylor Family Kinesiology Building – University of Calgary

Solico Metal is proud to support CANA Group of Companies on the new Taylor Family Kinesiology Building at the University of Calgary.

The approximately 25,000-square-foot facility will expand research capacity within UCalgary’s Faculty of Kinesiology, creating new space dedicated to advancing human performance, movement science and sport science.

Solico’s Scope

Solico’s structural steel package includes approximately 200,000 pounds of steel, with several significant components requiring careful coordination, fabrication and installation planning.

Key elements include:

  • Approximately 200,000 pounds of structural steel
  • 85-foot-wide open-web steel joists
  • A feature stair package
  • Structural steel fabrication and project coordination
  • Detailing review and coordination with the project team

The long-span joists are a key feature of the project, supporting the open spaces required for a modern research and kinesiology facility while demanding a high level of precision throughout the detailing and fabrication process.

Supporting a Complex Institutional Build

Institutional projects require close coordination between trades, consultants and project partners to ensure structural components integrate effectively with architectural, mechanical and building systems.

Working with CANA Group of Companies, Solico is bringing its structural steel fabrication expertise to a project designed to serve University of Calgary students, researchers, athletes and the broader community for years to come.

The Taylor Family Kinesiology Building is expected to open in 2027.
