Solico Metal recently completed the fabrication and supply of structural steel support systems for a solar energy facility in southeast Calgary.
The project included six custom galvanized structural steel support structures designed to support photovoltaic solar panels while integrating with the existing site and surrounding infrastructure.
Solico’s Scope
Solico managed the structural steel package from coordination and detailing review through fabrication and delivery, working closely with the project team to ensure each structure met the project’s technical and installation requirements.

- Approximately 16,800 lbs of structural steel
- Hot-dip galvanized finish for long-term exterior durability

Structural Steel Supporting Renewable Energy
Solar installations in active commercial environments require more than structural performance alone. The steel structures must accommodate solar equipment, site conditions, clearances and installation requirements while minimizing disruption to the surrounding property.
For this project, Solico fabricated each support structure to meet the specific requirements of the solar installation, with galvanized steel providing additional protection from Calgary’s year-round weather conditions.
The completed project demonstrates how Solico’s structural steel fabrication capabilities can support the growing demand for renewable energy and alternative infrastructure projects across Western Canada.
