Position: Steel Structure Estimator

Job Description:

The Steel Structure Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structural steel projects. This role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, pricing materials and labor, coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors, and supporting the project team during bidding and execution phases.

  • Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and connections
  • Prepare material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates
  • Request and analyze quotes from suppliers, fabricators, and subcontractors
  • Develop complete bid proposals, including clarifications and exclusions
  • Assess project risks and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Coordinate with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams
  • Participate in bid reviews and handover meetings after award
  • Maintain estimating databases, pricing records, and historical cost data
  • Assist with value engineering and alternative design proposals when required
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • More than 2 years of experience in structural steel or miscellaneous metals estimating
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication, erection, and connection design concepts
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings
  • Knowledge of Canadian or applicable steel codes and standards (e.g., CSA, AISC) is an asset

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in estimating and take-off software (e.g., Tekla, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Advance Steel, or similar)
  • Strong Excel and cost-analysis skills
  • Familiarity with steel weights, profiles, coatings, and fabrication processes
  • Understanding of shop and site labor productivity

Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
