18,000 Sq Ft Freestanding Mezzanine for Home Building Products Manufacturer
One of our recent standout projects at Solico involved designing and manufacturing an 18,000 sq ft freestanding mezzanine for a leading exterior home building products manufacturer. The goal? To maximize their vertical space for better storage of large items like doors and windows.
The Challenge: 40 Feet Between Columns
The manufacturer had a specific challenge that made this project particularly complex—they needed a minimum of 40 feet between columns. Their massive carts required ample space to maneuver, and most other companies in the industry struggled to meet this requirement, offering a maximum span of only 24 feet between pillars.
The Solico Solution
Thanks to our expertise in structural steel and innovative design, Solico was able to deliver where others couldn’t. We engineered an open web joist steel deck mezzanine that achieved the required 40-foot span between columns, providing the manufacturer with the spacious and functional layout they needed. We both manufactured the mezzanine, and handled the full procurement and design process.
Concrete Flooring for Durability
To make sure the mezzanine could withstand heavy use, we installed a concrete floor on the steel deck. This enhanced durability and ensured long-term stability for the manufacturer’s storage operations.
